I am going to summarise the recent Egyptian cross tattoo video that was uploaded onto the web. The video explains the history behind the Egyptian cross or "ankh" so that if anyone is interested in tattooing their bodies with this image are aware of what the symbolism is behind it.
The ankh which is shown in the video is a really beautiful golden amulet that shows the loop on the top of the cross. The video goes on to explain that the ankh was one of the most well known ancient Egyptian images and its symbology is very powerful.
The Egyptians believed that the ankh was used by anubis and embalming priests to transfer the breath of life into the deceased in order to allow them to go into the afterlife. There are other theories behind the meaning of the ankh such as the loop representing the mouth of the Nile and the left and right sticks of the cross representing the left and right parts of Egypt; therefore it represents unity of a country through the life bringing force of the Nile.
Either way the ankh provides power symbolism and anyone looking to use it as a part of their tattoo design should be aware of this.
