Ehr Software Soon To Achieve Universal Appeal
Doctors around the country and across disciplines have now accepted EHR development
as a comprehensive advance towards a more cohesive patient care regime. This is extremely encouraging for EHR development teams that are constantly innovating and improvising to bring out technologically advanced EHR software applications.
National policy initiatives utilizing EHR software are yielding positive results. Recent surveys, one in January and a second in late spring, have given clear indications of a rapidly increasing adoption of EHR software. The adoption rate in the first survey done in January by SK&A, was 46% and in the second survey in spring, sponsored by Medscape, the adoption rate was 74%. This was elicited from 21,200 physicians across 25 disciplines. An additional 8% were in the process of incorporating EHR developments.
The incentives and disincentives for attaining Meaningful Use standardsbased on EHR software are bearing fruit with 44% of the physicians already accredited. This is expected to increase to 75% by the year end.
The physicians themselves, too, in their one-on-ones have advocated the systems interactivity and tacitly endorsed universal adoption of EHR software. This particular facet implies that one can in the near future witness a growing demand for EHR development software.
The survey also brings up the frank realization that there is a significant minority of approximately 15% which persist with their reservation about the system. The insight acquired is that this percentage is similarto that prior to the adoption of the system. This reveals that these reservations originate not in the system, but in the apprehension of what the system might entail. Greater familiarization with EHR software prior to its introduction would resolve these apprehensions. This is borne out by the fact that those who approved adoption also stayed relatively constant at 62% before and 67% after.
Patient relationships, better or otherwise, yielded approx. 30% each before and after EHR software deployment. Productivity was seen by 15% to be enhanced while 26% felt the opposite. To resolve this hospitals and clinics need to deliver better training for familiarization with EHR software.
Some physicians found themselves making less eye contact with patients. This is a behavioral factor for which adjustments are feasible.
Efficiency enhancement was acknowledged by 25% of those surveyed, and 5% found it more cost economical and 6% found it increased profitability. So the earning capacities of physicians are unilaterally maintained when utilizing EHR software.
The cost of the systems was not cognizant to physicians who were part of groupings of 11, or more. Within practice oriented groups, the cost per physician was seen to be in the range of $10,000-$35,000. Charges for Internet hosted EHR softwarewere per provider, seen to start from just under $200 and go up to over $700 per month.
The top User-ranked EHR software, with the exception of VA-CPRS, are all light weight and economical. Theyve been preferred by virtue of their EHR development beingmore intuitive - easy to learn, to operate, and to assimilate.
