number of people pay a visit to a heart care specialist, who refers them for an electrocardiogram test for the detection of disorders. For all such analysis and tests related to the heart, an EKG technician is the one responsible to handle the diagnostic tasks with the patients.

The duty of a well-trained EKG professional is to conduct electrocardiogram tests by measuring electrical impulses of the heart by strapping electrodes to the arms, chest and legs of the patient. An electrocardiogram machine monitors the heart rate and the results are printed on a graphical scale to be analyzed by a cardiologist or a physician.

Skills: An EKG technician helps in taking images and echocardiograms of the heart with the help of ultrasound devices; this is done along with the routine procedures of electrocardiogram. In some cases, they are trained to perform procedures that are more complicated like Holter monitor and stress testing. They also require checking of electrocardiogram equipment from time to time in order to prevent any malfunctioning and the constant supply of resources such as paper and water.

Workplace: These technicians are employed in various medical facilities such as hospitals, clinics and doctors offices. Most of them help in assisting people on to the treadmill or the table for conducting EKG. The working conditions are relaxed with most of them working in five days, forty hours/week schedules and sometimes can involve even night shifts to handle any kind of emergencies.

Compensations: The profile of an EKG professional generally has good pay packages; however, criteria such as the location and experience also play an important role in deciding the remuneration.
