Elcina Cream - The Miracle Snail Cream from Chile

30 years ago a Chilean family decided that exporting snails to restaurants in Europe seemed like a money making prospect. They opened a snail farm and the family provided most of the labor. The running of a snail farm involves making snail cages. In the course of making these cages and in handling the snails the workers on the farm acquired numerous small cuts and abrasions. The beginnings of the process that led to the creation of Elicina cream, or snail cream, came when the workers noticed that far from getting infected, these small wounds soon healed and left no scars.

It did not take long for the family to come to the realization that they were not going to make it as snail farmers for the European food industry. At the time the family's eldest son was an undergraduate medical student. His mother asked him to investigate what it was about handling the snails that always healed the small wounds on their hands so completely. The first discovery was that the snail secretions contained a cellular regenerating agent called Allantoin, in a natural state.

After this discovery the family decided to find out what else it might be about the snail secretions that left the workers damaged skin so supple and scar free. They contracted with a laboratory in their native Chile to begin a wide ranging investigation into the matter. After nine long years of study it was determined that the snail that they had been raising, the Chilean Snail Helix Aspersa Muller, contained in it's secretions in addition to Allantoin, Collagen, Elastin and Glycolic Acid. All of these are elements widely used in the Cosmetic and Dermatological field. Also present were natural antibiotics, vitamins and proteins which aided the healing process.

And so Elicina Cream was born. The family created a cream consisting of 80% snail extract and 20% inactive ingredients. When it was time to come up with a name for the handcrafted cream it was decided to name it after a drug that was in use in Europe in the 17th century. In order to protect themselves from copycats they thought it would be best to apply for a patent on the cream and applied to the World Organization of Industrial Patents in Geneva Switzerland. Finally, in 1993, 3 years after applying for the patent, and 12 years after beginning the journey that led to the creation of Elicina Cream the patent was granted.

Two years after that Elicina Cream was brought to market in Santiago Chile. It is to this day still produced by LACOFAR Cosmetic Laboratory, which is the only authorized producer of Elicina Cream. Though these days there are imitators, Elicina Cream is the original premier snail cream.

It has been shown that when Elicina Cream is used as a long term component of a skin care regimen (over 2 4 months) results may be as good as a strong chemical peel or dermabrasion or light therapies, but without the risks inherent in those procedures.
