, identified, processed and saved for the purpose of creation of evidence to facilitate the process of a court hearing is termed as E-Discovery or Electronic Discovery. 4)The usage of E- Discovery software has led to development of cyber forensics which is completely a new field of study and includes the investigation of digital data in the social, legal and political spheres of life. Through this field, forensic research and investigation is undertaken on a particular network or pc and after the required information is located, the respective pc is isolated from the network.

The most basic models of an E-Discovery process begin with the management of information. If you want to minimize the the costs and risks involved, you need to identify and ascertain them very carefully. Identification of the sources of Electronically Source Information (ESI) is the next stage of the process of Electronic Discovery. It, also, involves ascertaining the relevance of the obtained information and its various details.

The data thus scrutinized is collected and preserved. The information needs to preserved and protected adequately so that no unauthorized element can alter or delete the data. Collection refers to accumulation of all the information obtained through E- Discovery for further processing.

Thereafter comes the processing, review and analysis of the concerned data or information. Here, the ESI is compressed to make it easier for reviewers and approvers to sift through data. After all these steps are successfully completed, the data is evaluated on the basis on relevance, importance, applicability and pattern.

The delivery of ESI to the final clients or the concerned parties is the last and final step of the whole process of E- discovery. Presentation or display of ESI in front of the court trials, etc. in order to extort further information to facilitate the case at hand.
