Elephants are the largest land mammals. Today only three species of them are living and they include the African Bush, African Forest and the Asians. The other species have since become extinct like the mammoths which were very big and used to life caves. The animals' life varies differently from other wild animals. They have a very high memory capacity and can remember events that took place a couple of years back. They also undergo mourning like humans incase they lose one of their own and organize celebrations when a lost family member returns.
Elephants can live for 70 years or more and require very large tracts of untouched land as they consume a lot of vegetation. They get wild very fast and can revenge by venturing in agricultural lands and destroying all the crops. They do this after their areas of habitation are invaded by humans. Unlike other animals they can play and even laugh. Moreover they are usually very sensitive to their young ones referred to as calves. The whole family will hold any activity just to comfort the calf and offer protection in case of danger.
Elephants use their trunks to hold and cut branches and uproot small trees. They also use them to hold water and to pour it into the mouth or while intimidated. The trunk has over 100,000 muscle units and that's. The animals are blessed with a very high sense and can smell danger from distances of five to six miles and alert their fellow colleagues. During such times they make deep rumbling noises that can only be heard by fellow animals. Every animal is believed to have own signature growl that can be identified and understood by the others.
