Elton John found pop superstardom during the 1970s. He blended together the sounds of soul, disco, country, pop and rock and emerged as a wildly respected stage entertainer. Many of his songs have gone onto become contemporary pop standards including "Your Song," "Rocket Man" and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me." In spite of his many successes, John battled his own personal demons and he fought to give up a persistent drug addiction and would eventually admit he was gay, a revelation that lead to numerous scandals in the press.

John's partner on the stage for the Face 2 Face Tour, Billy Joel, also emerged as a popular singer/songwriter during the latter part of the 1970s (seemingly against all odds, he was never a critics' favorite). He started gaining traction in the industry with Piano Man, but he achieved superstardom with The Stranger, which was released in fall of 1977. His follow-up 52nd Street, also was a huge success on the charts.

John and Joel reunited for their Face 2 Face Tour in March of 2009. Elton John said on his website: "I love touring with Billy. I have the greatest respect for him and we're such good friends." Billy Joel echoed those sentiments about his musical partner and friend adding, "the great thing about performing with Elton is that he is such a good piano player and that makes me have to dig deep to keep up with him, not to mention I've got the best seat in the house-only one piano away from Elton John!"
