Email Marketing - Selling The Right Way

Email marketing and selling the right way can make all the difference in whether

you as a business owner creates sales and turns a profit or just simply adds new names and emails to your list.

The challenge might be that you created your own email list, but for some reason the responses and sales are just not happening like you thought they would? All that time and money just isn't paying off and the question is, why isn't it working?

Well, it isn't that email marketing doesn't work. It's more likely that you are not marketing and communicating to your list correctly. If you have been frustrated with your list, so much so that you felt like deleting everything and starting all over again, don't do it! Read the rest of this article first. You may still be able to increase responses and conversions, which could ultimately allow you to turn a profit with the products and/or services that you are offering to your list.

So what can you do to make it work?


To begin, here is what you should not do with your list.

Don't try to hard sell your subscribers or employ any manipulative selling techniques. Hard pressure selling is a definite no. You will just turn people off, they will never buy and then they'll unsubscribe, never to return.

The goal here is to build up goodwill with your subscribers. How do you do that? Here are some suggestions.

1) Add Value by giving away free content. This doesn't mean regurgitated, copied material. The free content should ideally be your best material - written, spoken or through video capture. Remember, these people don't know you yet. So you must give them a reason to stick around and hear what you have to say. You must work hard to earn their trust. Give away your best advice, information, etc. and earn their trust. This process takes time. So be patient.

2) Publish quality content. Write unique blog posts offering really great tips, suggestions and commentary. Then invite your subscribers to the post. Do this on a regular basis so that they get a better sense of who you are, and what you do.


3) Introduce yourself. Tell stories and let others know more about your background. Make your story interesting to read. The key here is to be real. People like to do business with real people. Again, it takes time for someone to form an impression of who you are. So email them multiple times and let them learn more about you.

4) When it's time to sell, go all out. Whether it's within a few days or after a week or so, don't be afraid to ask for the sale. This is the time to introduce your products or services to your list. Not everyone will buy, but a percentage of your subscribers will purchase from you if they have a need and you've developed a relationship with them.

The bottom line is that you want to develop long term relationships with your subscribers and clients. Do the four steps listed above and you'll be on your way.
