Newsletters cater to a certain group by containing information that is of interest to that particular group. For example, a medical newsletter would contain recent medical breakthroughs and health-related articles among others that medical or healthcare professionals would find interesting and important to read. A newsletter used in marketing acts in the same manner, only in this case, the certain group is clients or possible clients and the information is about the products or services that are or could be of interest to them.

Sending email newsletters is part of an email marketing campaign where a business firm promotes its products or services, establishes customer-client relationship, and extends their marketing possibilities through the use of electronic mail. The newsletters are fundamentally similar as the newsletters printed on paper it's just that they are viewed online via one's personal email account .
So what are the advantages of email newsletters over the printed ones? Generally, it costs less to create and send an email newsletter than to publish and circulate a printed newsletter. One reason is because the marketer does not have to spend for printing and delivery expenses. Sending a newsletter through email is also faster than by mail or carrier package. It will only take seconds for the marketer to send an email whereas traditional mail or carrier package may take days or even weeks . Moreover, since it is basically an email message, the marketer can personalize it according to his client's preferences. Also, it is relatively easy to establish a functional email newsletter campaign. Templates are available if the marketer is not adept in designing a newsletter.
There is also software that can help not only in making an email newsletter but in email marketing in general. And although the marketer may have to purchase this software, it will still be less expensive than to resort to a printed version. Apart from that, the only things a marketer needs to prepare for an email newsletter are the same things needed on printed newsletters: the information the marketer wants to convey and some related pictures or images. When all that is set, then the marketer's email newsletters are ready to be sent.
But before actually sending the newsletters, the marketer, especially those newbies in email marketing, needs to keep in mind that email marketing is not spamming. The marketer must bear in mind the proper procedures and netiquette in sending email marketing messages, including newsletters, according to website policy agreements and of course federal anti-spamming laws. Email newsletters are sent only to recipients who have opted in to receive such messages. Familiarity to email filters will also be of help since some may filter out a legitimate marketing message mistaking it for spam because of certain lines in its content. In a nutshell, the keyword here is consent. So long as the marketing message is sent only to those it is permitted to be sent, it would be legitimate.
