Without emergency lights on fire trucks, ambulances and police vehicles they would be unable to arrive at their destinations in time to respond to those situations that may be life threatening. The use of lights on emergency vehicles is necessary not only to allow them to arrive at their destinations on time but also so other motorists will know they are responding to an emergency situation.

The important thing about emergency vehicle lights is their variation in color schemes that identifies them individually. For instance, ambulances and fire trucks have red lights whereas police vehicles have various combinations depending where you live-some states have gone to a red, white and blue LED combination that bounces against the cover of the lights. While these color variations remain fairly consistent, they are essential for oncoming motorists to be able to identify approaching and stationery emergency vehicles that are responding to emergency calls. Without the emergency lights atop their roofs it would be impossible for other motorists to identify an approaching emergency vehicle.

There are different styles of emergency vehicle lights but each has the same purpose-to warn people of an approaching emergency vehicle. Whether the emergency lights are the old bubble style lights or the LED bar lights is of little importance; their purpose is the important issue. If the emergency lights a vehicle displays accomplishes its purpose it is of little importance which lights the vehicle displays. While most companies and police departments today choose to display the LED bar lights there are no regulations that require this type of lights at the present time.

How much emphasis should someone place on the style of emergency vehicle lights? As long as they meet any regulations your state or the federal government may have in effect at the time there is no need to become overly concerned. The key issue is having emergency lights that are highly visible so that there is no possibility of creating a hazard for motorists in the area of the emergency. That means assuring that each emergency vehicle has lights prominently displayed and operational at any time the vehicle is responding to an emergency.
