Emerging Trend In Kolkata - Studio And Serviced Apartments Becoming Popular

Today people of Kolkata is now showing interest in Studio and ownership service apartments

- a type of small furnished apartment combining living room, bedroom and Kitchen into a single room available for short-term or long-term stays equipped with amenities for daily use are slowly becoming the in thing in the real estate market of Kolkata.

For example: IT professional Mr. Rajesh Dutta has booked a service apartment in Rajarhat because he does not have time to do routine things as both him and his wife are working so they need a service apartment.

Major and well established real estate players - Siddha and Merlin - already come up with two residential studio apartment projects in Kolkata. Some residential property of Kolkata are in the offing. Few of which are offering exclusive serviced apartments along with studio apartments.

Jain Group and Shristi Infrastructure have taken up separate ownership service apartment property in Rajarhat. A Studio apartment ideally ranges between 500 sq ft to 1000 sq ft and normally has a separate toilet. Whereas service apartments offer household facilities like laundry, sweeper, grocery shop, food etc. in these apartments - kitchen may either be located in the central room or in a small separate room.

Today Real Estate operators feel that there are three main factors behind the growth in demand for studio and service apartments in Kolkata -

1. Rising number of young IT & service industry professionals with fat pay packages.

2. Work pressure and hectic lifestyle.

Siddha Group is building an exclusive studio apartment property called Xanadu in Rajarhat and Merlin Group has done one in D H Road called Merlin Green. Mr. Sanjay Jain the joint managing director of Siddha Group pointed out that young couples are preferring to stay in Studio Apartments. As our studio apartment project Xanadu also have the service facility and have 340 studio apartments.

Now people are coming to stay in the city for two-three years as they looks for the studio and service apartments. As few developers of Kolkata providing service apartments in both ownership and rental basis as well.

Mr. S Mohta chairman of Merlin Group feels that today studio and service apartments will be ideally suited for Rajarhat. The response was good and in future they might do more. One of the leading real estate marketing companies in the eastern region thinks that there is a potential for growth of studio and service apartments in the city but it would take some time. Such property of Kolkata are coming up but still it is not as popular as it is in Bangalore.

As said by the president of real estate body CREDAI Mr. Pradip Sureka feels that it would take some time for studio and service apartments to grow in Kolkata. As the floating population is still less in the city but it is going up moderately. This residential property of Kolkata is not only attracting young couple but also retired elderly person as well. There are another kind of buyers those who like to stay alone in the weekend far from the bustling city.

In-short indeed, real estate landscape of this megacity is all set for a change.
