Emirates Airlines to fly trendy

This is the single largest confirmed order for Airbus by value. With the latest orders, the United Arab Emirates' national air carrier will become the biggest A380 operator in the world. In this way, it's ready to fly trendy.

The Dubai-based air carrier displayed its solid growth model convincingly ramping business up for leisure travellers to fly globally. Aviation observers are staggered by the move. Some of them are wondering what the airline will do to so many double-deckers, and further expressed concerns over its growth pattern sustainability in the volatile global economic environment which has affected both business and leisure severely.

Emirates Airlines has recently completed 25 years in aviation industry. Till Tuesday flying with a fleet of 147 aircrafts had a backlog order of 143 aircrafts worth $48 billion in the past.

While its latest announcement boosts order to 175 worth of $59.5. By value for Airbus it becomes the single largest carrier in the world with A380 aircrafts, while Qantas came down to the second position for the biggest A380 holder, however 20 other aircrafts are still on confirmed order.

Strategically securing a heavy discount on the bulk orders, Emirates Airways often places orders during depressed market and extracts bigger discounts. This time, it has called for A380, which rarely make much headway in sales in recent times.

Emirates Airlines keeps healthy balance sheet. It obtains easy finance from banks. Most of its fleet has been financed by the banks. It preserves a cashflow of Dh12.5 billion. And therefore paying for expansion is unlikely to raise any issue for it ever.

Its meteoric rise is rooted in its business model. No strong competition has yet been noticed by Emirates Airlines for a number of years. A handful of global carriers have also avoided doing business in the Dubai market. Other fast-growing airlines such Etihad and Qatar Airways are also trying to expand their fleets to increase their market share.

On the contrary, the aviation pundits are surprised and raised concerns over support the expansion of an airline on this scale. Dubai is a city of 1.6 to 1.8 million people only, then from where passengers will come from. Question still remains on of filling these high-volume aircraft intact.

The government of Dubai adopted an open-sky policy at that time of opening its newly built airport in 1960. It gave them relatively free access and brought in more traders, with connecting Dubai with the major business hubs of Asia, Europe and Africa. Merchandisers, hoteliers and tourism sectors were also afford to grow.

Dubai launched Vision 2010' to boost its economy in the 1990s. A great influx of professionals then started pouring in to work in neighbourhoods such as Dubai Internet City.

And when Emirates Airlines launched in 1985, it found no problem in attracting passengers. That all it needed was to place the planes on the right routes. High-passenger routes i.e., Cairo, Dhaka, Karachi, Mumbai and New Delhi, provided Emirates the needed traffic of workers, complemented by flyers coming from Frankfurt, London and much later Sydney for business and leisure. Emirates Airlines is currently serving more than 102 destinations across 62 countries in six continents.

In its last financial year, the airline hauled about 27.45 million passengers. It generated revenues of Dh43.45 billion and earned profits of Dh3.53 billion. It continues on taking advantage of this growth by putting more planes in the market, and efficiently managing the seat occupancies.

East Asia and Australasia fetch nearly 28 per cent of Emirates' revenues, while 27.3 per cent comes from Europe. 12.6 per cent of its earning originates from West Asia and Indian Ocean and about 11.6% and 11.2 % are contributed by the Middle East and Iran and Africa respectively, and the remaining 9.4 per cent of the Dh43.45 billion builds in from America.

With its new aircraft slot order, Emirates Airlines expects to play a greater role in connecting people' and bridging cultures' across the globe.
