Enduring Powers Of Attorney - Why You Need Them ?

Thanks to Entrust Law and of course my wife, I am sure that even when I am too old

to make financial decisions, my affairs will be properly managed by someone who is an expert in such things. My wife of over 40 years, Margaret, and I have been discussing quite a lot about what we did recently and since I have nothing better to do than tend to my pooches, I seated myself comfortably and set to recount my experience with Mrs. Sheehan, whom I have entrusted with enduring powers of attorney.

It began with my failing health after my active service life and Margaret was constantly in tears worrying over my physical and financial health. For the peace of her mind and mine, I began making enquiries at local law firms about the basics of Enduring Powers of Attorney. It was during one of such visits to lawyers when I met Michele Sheehan of Entrust Law.

Her outspoken frankness stroked me positively. I was not used to lawyers being so honest with me before this. Unlike with others, I decided to come clear about my inexperience with her, she might have spotted it anyway. Therefore, I told her everything that led to the interview with her. She gave a quick drill into Enduring Powers of Attorney and all the legalese that came with it. It goes without saying she had made her impression, but I decided to keep playing hardball. I put this simple question across to her:

How can I be sure that you are the right person?

For a reply, she gave me a set of questions! Here they are:

1. Is the lawyer trustworthy?

2. Can he or she be trusted to act in the best interest of the donor (me in this case)?

3. Is she qualified or does she have prior experience of handling and maintaining financial records?

She also clarified that the person in possession of my EPA did not have to be a lawyer. A spouse, friend or a family member can be a candidate as well. My Margaret is hardly qualified to handle all the hassle. I decided to sleep over the whole matter for a couple of days and approach her later.

Finally, on a fateful day, Entrust Law became my attorney and I became the donor. There were two witnesses, one was a lawyer and the other was a trusted friend I have known long. Michele made me fill the EPA form and sign at several places. The witnesses did their job and I was done before I knew it. Thanks Entrust Law and thank you Michele.
