Enemy of the State
The day of the Christian, Euro-American is over! You are now enemies of the state!"
Lots to digest in that venom laced diatribe, not the least of which is the source of such self-destructive hatred for someone she does not even know.
In the spirit of self-examination, I tried to see me through her eyes, the lens that shapes her world and take inventory of any evidence of my crimes.
Yep, I am a descendant of Caucasian, English and Irish ancestors. It gets pretty murky in the fog of distant genealogy beyond that, and I could find no definitive evidence of which of Noah's sons is back there in the shadows. Must not be hers I guess, or we would be kissing cousins.
And yes, my Puritan ancestor in England, Peter Temple, supported Oliver Cromwell and signed the death warrant for the king who was beheaded. Beheaded! Well, she's got me there. Oh, he died in prison in the tower of London. Subversive blood in my veins sure enough.
It's in my DNA I guess, no respect for authority, but in my research it seems that all of our ancestors were overthrowing tyrants at one time or another. That is until they gave us football on television-ESPN, MTV and BET, too. Then they gave us flags to wave and told us that to question authority was not patriotic. Then we became good "sheeple."
Whoa, that leads me to another dissident in the family tree, the denizen of Charleston, another Peter Temple who fought in the American Revolution as a line soldier (read terrorist in today's lexicon).
Oh no! He also joined the mantra of the day; "No king but King Jesus." More seditious kinfolk.
What am I going to say about Pastor Burwell Temple of North Carolina, my great-great-great-great grandfather? First, he was a prominent minister and Christian editor. The president of the railroad (on par in those days with say big oil, Goldman Sachs, or the Fed) tried to give granddad a lifetime pass on his railroad in exchange for his support in the president's run for Congress. Wouldn't you know it? My seditious grandpa campaigned against him for that and defeated him. Yep, he would have been against the New World Order that we hear so much about today.
Oh, no! Then there's Great Grandpa Captain A.W. Patterson of the Confederate States of America (read racist today). I guess she wouldn't care that he owned no slaves and didn't join the CSA until 1863 when Yankees were on his home soil. No, just more evidence of that rebellious heritage. Guess she's got me.
I might as well go ahead and admit that there are only two texts I am guided by: The Holy Bible and the U.S. Constitution. Better make that three since they unshackled the Declaration of Independence from the Constitution that God gave us. Man, I'm toast. So, as the descendant of DWEMS (Dead European White Males) and WASPS (White Anglo Saxon Protestants), I am for sure guilty. Yes, guilty of loving and trusting the One True Sovereign, not those in Washington who think they are; guilty of believing in the Second Amendment so we might give pause to some of those tyrants my ancestors fought; guilty of believing in marriage of one man and one woman (read hater today); guilty of loving liberty, not the false prosperity of socialism that seeks to steal our souls and rob us of our dignity; guilty of revering all those DWEMS and WASPS who gave us Shakespeare and the King James Bible; and guilty of being able to distinguish truth from a cow patty!I might as well confess, too, that it is not the little c in Caucasian that defines me, but the big C in Jesus Christ. I also tire easily of folks who can't see that the "elite", who view us as serfs, like to separate us along every divide: racial, political, religious, nationality and economic status and while we fight with each other, they pick our pockets and rob us of our liberty. You'd think we would learn after a few thousand years. She looked at me, as if I fell down from Mars. No, no ancestors there that I know of. Finally, exasperated, she blurted out, "Oh yeah, well, Jesus was not white you know! Whatcha say to that?"I just asked, "Well, does that mean I should love Him less, and that you should love Him more?"She sputtered and stammered and finally walked away muttering, "He probably was home schooled, too!"Merle W.
