Enhance Your Home With Windows Shutters
Window shutters can enhance the design of your home and are also practical devices
for improving insulation and protecting your property against intense weather conditions. There are many different types of shutters available straight off the rack and these can also be produced bespoke to ensure they create exactly the right look and feel to your home. The two main types of window shutters:
Plantation shutters - these are slatted and can be opened and closed to regulate both light and air flow
Solid shutters these can be securely closed and provide additional protection against light and weather.
Plantation Shutters
Plantation shutters have slats that run laterally and are available in three main designs:
Full Height Shutters these plantation shutters cover the entire window aperture and idea for patio doors, sliding doors and picture windows. They combine clean lines and functionality and are a stylish and practical addition to any home.
Tier-on-tier Shutters these plantation shutters are designed as separate pieces that work independently from each other to create a more versatile window covering. As well as opening the whole shutter you have the option to open the bottom and top halves independently from each other and this allows you to regulate light and ventilation more efficiently.
Caf Style Shutters these plantation shutters cover the bottom half of the window only and provide lots of light whilst maintaining privacy and providing some shade. These windows are a very stylish and modern alternative to net curtains for homes in busy built up areas.
Solid Shutters
Solid shutters have slats that are hinged vertically and this allows them to close in a concertina movement. This means you can open solid shutters partially to control light and ventilation. When solid shutters are fully closed they can provide near blackout conditions which is ideal for bedrooms and also provides more effective insulation against noise and different outside temperatures. Another benefit of solid shutters is that they can be locked in the shut position providing additional security for homes.
Materials
Window shutters can be crafted from a number of materials including metal and plastic but the most popular option is wood, as this creates a very stylish look for homes. Wooden window shutters are also very versatile and can be designed to be either traditional or modern and the main benefit is that as wood ages it can actually grow in character, whereas old metal and plastic shutters can start to look very out of date and shabby. Wooden shutters are easy to care for and can be repaired easily if damaged. The best wood for shutters is a durable hardwood such as cedar, which contains natural preservatives that protect the timber against insects and weather depredation.
