Heading out to Rio Grande Valley State Park on an Albuquerque Vacation

Starting from the Sandia Pueblo in the north, and running through Albuquerque to the south in Isleta Pueblo, the 4,300-acre park called the Rio Grande Valley State Park was set in 1983. The environment of this park is unique from New Mexico as it has cottonwood trees, coyote willow, and New Mexico olive creating which create a shady forest. Many habitats have formed around it for beavers, abundant bird species, turtles and snakes. Other than the marvelous view to enjoy, you can go hiking, bicycling, mountain biking, horseback riding or do in-line skating. The Paseo del Bosque paved trail is excellent for hikes as it runs along the east side of the river, or one can head out along the natural surface trail beneath the cottonwood trees. Boating, kayaks, canoes, rafts and other non-motorized water vehicles can be enjoyed here too. Places to see while at the park are the Rio Grande Open Space, Calabacillas, Arroyo, Shining River Parking Area, Rio Grande Nature Center, Peublo Montano Picnic Area and Trailhead, Rio Bravo Riverside Picnic Area, Fishing Pier and Nature Trail, Rio del Norte Picnic Area, and the Aldo Leopold Interpretive Trail and Forest. The state run park is a treat for all visitors and the river Rio Grande runs along it, making this site a piece of heaven in New Mexico.
