There are many reasons for humans to admire the humble snail

. Carrying around his home on his back, he is free to travel wherever he pleases, to find fulfilment and rest anywhere he finds the food and water that he needs to keep him going every day.

Unburdened by possessions and the effects of life, he can find all he needs in so many places, so can spend his life choosing the best locations which give him all his worldly requirements. He can even stop off anywhere he chooses along the way, to discover new sights and experiences, take time to ponder, and broaden his horizons in the truest sense of the phrase.

If only life were so simple for we humans. We spend so much of our lives acquiring possessions ranging from trinkets to clothes that might be in fashion one month, and then never see the light of day again, and gadgets without which we just couldnt imagine life that when we want to travel, to expand our horizons, those very possessions can weigh us down, frustrate us, and limit our ability to travel truly freely.

Preparing to take a journey then becomes a chore, rather than being part of the pleasure of the trip itself. Do I really need this? Can I manage without that? And how on earth am I going to carry it all? Thats where we can take a leaf from the snails book. Because there is only so much we can carry, we only take what we immediately need for our travels. And items we might envisage needing, and which will help us make the most of our time at our next location can be left behind.

Except that thats no longer necessary. Who ever heard of a bag or suitcase getting lonely? Now, its perfectly possible to send bags and cases ahead of us, and have them there, waiting for us on arrival at our destination. Sending baggage to European countries like Spain is easier and involves less paperwork than when you send baggage outside of Europe to countries like Australia.

A large proportion of air transport today is carrying cargo shipments of all types and sizes which are needed in some far corner of the world. So why not let luggage travel on a plane where it doesnt take up valuable payload space? Instead it is handled with consideration by shipping companies which exist purely to arrange the safe transportation of freight so our cargo enjoys the same considerate treatment.

It can then be easily collected at our convenience, from a centrally-located office which might even be more convenient for our accommodation than the airport and dropped off again for separate onward dispatch when required. That sounds so much better than travelling like a snail.
