Enjoying Clean Bedroom Air-5 Things To Get Rid Of In Your Bedroom Air

Adequate sleep has been shown to be one of the best ways to stay healthy

. But if the air in your bedroom is filled with irritants that keep you awake, and even worse, cause congestion, runny nose and other symptoms, your bedroom is doing more harm than good. By clearing the air of the following 5 irritants, your bedroom can once again be a haven for rest, relaxation, and a good night's sleep you can count on.

Dust----Looking at dust through a magnifying glass can tell you exactly what it is made of in your home. Typically it is a collection of small pieces of fabric, dirt and/or sand, small pieces of wood, plaster, drywall, hair (human and pet), and sometimes even small pieces of metal that are shaved off hinges as doors are opened and closed.

Continually breathing these particles is unhealthy. This causes the lungs to have to filter it, and makes extra work for the liver as it is constantly struggling to dispose of it. And without a reliable way to remove it from the air, it will continue accumulate to unhealthy levels.

Dust Mites---The bedroom is their favorite place in the house because they feed on flakes of dead skin. They love dark, moist, warm places (your bed) and multiply at an exponential rate. They go airborne when you make the bed, fluff your pillow, walk on the floor, or flop on the couch. The protein in their poop is a powerful allergy trigger, and unless the population is kept to a minimum there is no chance for a good night's sleep.

Odors---Furniture, carpet, paint, adhesives used for bathroom tile and counters can off gas volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) into the air. If you are at all sensitive to these fumes, they can cause headaches, dry throat, congestion, and other symptoms that make it unpleasant if not impossible to tolerate spending time in the bedroom. And of course that makes relaxation and sleep impossible.

Sometimes we bring home smells from the office or work in clothing. This adds to the collection of odors. Add personal fragrances from perfumes, lotions, after shave, and those from household products such as soaps, cleaning products, laundry fragrances on towels and linens and it makes for air that is unpleasant to breathe.

Pet Dander---One of the best ways to unwind and relax at the end of the day is to spend time with your pet. If it is a warm-blooded love such as a dog, cat, ferret, bunny or bird, you air will definitely have more particles than a home without a pet.

The dander or dead flakes of skin contain a protein that is a potent trigger of allergies and asthma. Hair, fur, feathers add to the number of particles. And if you allow your pet in the bedroom it is easy for every surface to contain huge amounts of these pet-related particles. They stick to clothes, fabrics, furniture and instead of your bedroom being a haven for sleep, it becomes a room clogged with allergens.

Seasonal Allergens----There's always something blooming, and pollen is the result. Whether it's tree pollen in the spring, grass pollen in the summer, or weed pollen in the fall, it is all but impossible to keep it from entering your bedroom on clothing, hair, shoes, or pets. If you are allergic, even though you may not be able to see it, your body will go into overdrive with sneezing, coughing, congestion making sleep elusive once again.

Keeping the air clear of allergy triggering particles and odors is a must if you ever want to be able to sleep in your bedroom. The only way to reduce the number of airborne allergens is to remove particles continuously with high efficiency particle arresting (abbreviated as HEPA) filtration. This type of filtration produces only clean, fresh air and by definition removes 99.97% of particles down to.3 microns in size.
