One of the first to react to the program was Grimsbys largest social housing landlord, the Shoreline Housing Partnership, which abandoned its plans of installing the solar power systems in 3,300 residences and effectively denying households what would have been a 40 % reduction in their energy bills. Shoreline believed that the short time left right before Dec. 12 is at odds with the processes organizations must go through to make sound decisions on financial, technical, planning and contracting matters.

The plan is said to go against UKs determination to build a low-carbon economy and the UK Prime Minister David Camerons claim that he wanted to lead the greenest federal government ever, stated a letter sent by the Friends of the Earth and a coalition of 55 individuals and organizations. The use of solar power is being encouraged in line using the UK governments plans of having 20 percent of its energy generated by renewable sources by 2020. One of the most popular environmental measures introduced by any government is the feed-in tariff scheme which was championed by Cameron within weeks of him becoming a Conservative leader.
