On 1996, Eotech launched its holographic sighting technology to be used in sport shooting and hunting applications to increase target accuracy and speed of target acquisition. It uses patented technology, the HWS, to provide the operator a parallax free sighting device that is nearly indestructible which also removes complexities from targeting and allows the aiming process to become almost instinctive and reflexive. Since then, the HWS has been standardized by many organizations in US such as the FBI, NYPD, LAPD and etc.

It delivers more speed and accuracy gain, uncompromising use of peripheral vision, leaves no muzzle side operator signature, and is packaged in a compact, durable unit.

The Eotech model 550 is night vision compatible. These kinds of sight models are submersible up to 33ft except for the model the SU-231/PEQ M553 555. The SU-231/PEQ M553 555 is submersible up to 66ft. All of these sights are battery operated. There is a special night vision setting for 551 and 552 to eliminate the halo effect while viewing the image in the intensifier tube. However, 510 (511 - M511/512 M512), battery operated Waterproof and submersible up to 10 ft., is not night vision compatible.
