Error 1606 Could Not Access Network - What's Wrong When I Get This Error

An "error 1606 could Not Access Network Location" error is a common error an operating system may throw at you

. It mostly occurs during a Windows operating system upgrade. The OS being upgraded to is most often Windows XP or Windows XP SP1. So, you can see this error does not occur as often now as it once did. The reason for this is not as many people are upgrading to Windows XP or XP SP1 as once did. Still, this error can happen during other operations, but it was most common during upgrades to Windows XP.

The Manual Fix is Difficult to Implement

This is a registry error. Exactly where in the registry do you go to fix a 1606 error? Since it is possible to do a lot of harm to a registry by trying to repair it manually, it is best to never attempt to do this. A 1606 problem is an incorrect "Common Administrative Tools" setting deep in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive of the registry. The best way to repair this is with a reliable commercial registry cleaner. Since working on the registry manually opens up the possibility of bad things happening to the PC, letting software take care the problem is the recommended way!

The best thing to do, if you don't already have a registry cleaner installed on your PC or you have one but it didn't find the problem, is get a free scan with another one, hopefully a top notch one and see if this cleaner finds one or more registry errors. This is possible because sometimes an older registry cleaning software program may miss a registry problem or two. Also, there are registry cleaners on the market today that are not doing the job.

In any event, on many occasions some registry cleaners will miss some incidents of corruption that another one found. So, this is one more thing we all need to be aware of. Still, somebody or something has to get into the registry in order to get a 1606 error cleared and doing so manually is a very difficult assignment.

One Single Error?

Like all the problems in life, registry problems usually don't occur one at a time. This means, if you have a registry error, you probably have at least a dozen. The point here is even if you wanted to fix the problem causing the 1606 error, manually. It would take hours, maybe even several hours to complete the job! Even with all this time invested, there still might be some residual registry corruption that may be left behind and this could cause other computer problems, either immediately or sometime down the road.

Using tools whether they are physical tools or computer software, is a great way to circumvent hard work. This is not meant to be demeaning to us human beings. After all, we are the ones who invent these tools.

However, think of how quickly a backhoe operator could dig a hole 30 feet deep when he is operating his tool of choice as compared to how long it would take him to do the same thing using his hands. This analogy holds true with computers as well. Using the proper software can be a huge timesaver.
