Essential Respiratory Protection - Wear Disposable Face Mask At Work Place

Workers working in industries, manufacturing units or on construction sites do require respiratory protection in form face masks

. Face masks are recommended for providing apt respiratory protection against gases, vapors, dusts, fumes, smoke or mist.

Depending upon the nature of work, you can go for disposable face or non disposable face masks amongst the most basic distinctive features. Over and above you need to study in greater detail about the respiratory hazards faced by the workers and opt for face masks accordingly.

You do need to check out the face masks in relation to the following points

1) The workers who are actually going to wear the face masks are medically fit to wear them for the prescribed period.

2) On no count the face masks should cause discomfort and uneasiness when worn by the workers. The workers are required to check the fit of face mask each time they put it on. The face mask should be able to breathe comfortably.

3) The workers has been trained and instructed to wear the face masks till the time he moves away from the hazardous area.

4) Proper care and maintenance instructions should be followed. It is mandatory to conduct a full check on the face mask on regular basis, if found faulty, either the parts need to be replaced or the face mask needs to be replaced.

5) The face masks should be checked for expiry dates status, if they carry one.

6) The workers should be trained in wearing it in proper manner and checking for its perfect fit

7) In case, the workers find any discomfort, they are instructed to leave the hazardous area and remove the face masks.

A disposable face mask is designed to minimize breathing resistance, provide maximum dust protection from fine dusts, fibres, mists and gases as the condition may be. For those working in construction sites, in industrial units and even handling solid chemicals do need to go for FFP3 disposable face masks. The FFP3 face mask contains valves which enable the CO2 and the built up heat to escape from the vent and enhance the user's comfort level accordingly.

The FFP2 mask conforms to EN 149: 2001 FFP2. This disposable face mask comes without a valve and offers protection from solid and liquid aerosol variants. The FFP2 mask enjoy a protection factor of 10 which means it can protect the wearer from related hazards up to 10 times the OEL - the occupational exposure limit. This mask is moulded into a cup shape and comprises of twin head strap providing the user with secure and comfortable fit.
