European Respiratory Society: Barcelona 2010 Annual Congress

Previous years venues have included Vienna (2009)

, Berlin, (2008) and Stockholm (2007), and this year (The Year of the Lung), Barcelona is proud to play host to the twentieth annual congress. The Fira de Barcelona Congress Centre can be found at Fira Gan Via, which is approximately twenty minutes by taxi from Barcelona city centre and this will cost around 20. It is also easily accessible by train or car.

Last years congress in Vienna was attended by over 18,000 delegates, representing some 120 countries, making this annual event one of the most significant meetings in our calendar. It provides an ideal networking platform for visitors, delegates and exhibitors to interact and exchange information and ideas in their related fields. An exhibition will open at 9 am Sunday, 19th September, allowing companies to present their products and information until noon on Wednesday 22nd September.

The congress has a packed itinerary with twenty parallel sessions including symposia, free communication, oral and e-communication and thematic poster sessions. Evening symposia will cover all the latest research and most recent clinical practice findings offering stimulus and interest to a wide target audience.

The choice of Barcelona as this years venue is an extremely popular one as Barcelona is, without a doubt, one of Europes most exciting cities. Steeped in culture and history, this city of amazing transformations welcomes visitors like no other. Visitors and delegates can therefore take advantage of their attendance at the congress to avail themselves of some truly spectacular sightseeing.

The organisers of the congress will be offering a series of tours in and around Barcelona, all accompanied with English-speaking guides. The shorter, highlight tours will combine the most interesting local sites (classic and modern) with the Gaudi tour and a visit to the Montjuic Mountain with its spectacular panoramic view back over the entire city.

Longer tours may include tours of vineyards and wineries, Montserrat and Artistic Barcelona, or an excursion to Figueres, home of Salvadore Dali, and Girona with its ancient Jewish quarters. Indeed Barcelona has so much to offer that careful planning will be necessary to take maximum advantage of a short break in this exciting city.
