Evaluate Kitchen Sink Shapes For Your Remodel
Choosing a kitchen sink may seem like one of the less fun tasks involved in a kitchen remodeling project, but its worth some thought
. The kitchen sink is used on a daily basis so you want something that is functional and meets your needs. Consider the shape of your kitchen sink, not just the style and material. Here are some kitchen sink shape considerations:
Countertops: Your countertop material may help determine the size and shape of your sink. Some materials, like solid surface counters, can come with an integrated sink, avoiding seams in which crumbs can collect.
How Many Bowls? Single bowls are the traditional option and perhaps necessary if you dont have a lot of space. Double-bowl sinks are the most popular, one bowl for the garbage disposal and one for washing dishes. Triple bowls are available and usually have a small bowl in the middle for the garbage disposal.
Faucets and Fixtures: Before you settle on a sink design, check how many holes you need for the fixtures you selected. Ensure that the style of your fixtures matches your sink style.
Design: Most sinks are basic rectangles, although many are a D shape with a straight front edge and rounded corners. For a more exotic appearance, you can select a round or oval shape. The sink design should fit your kitchens look. A contemporary kitchen might go for a sleek under-mounted design. A country kitchen might use a farm sink, which is deeper and bigger than usual and comes with an apron front rather than traditional integration into the cabinets.
Your Needs: Sinks usually come in depths of 6, 8, or 12 inches. Match the depth of each sink bowl to your needs. A prep sink is usually shallower, while you need a deeper cleaning sink to accommodate big pots. Some sinks also come with built-in strainers or cutting boards.
