The venue is at the MGM Grand Arena in Vegas, Nevada. The production of this match has had its share of injuries which resulted to the cancellation of scheduled fights.
Originally, the main event was between UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva and previous UFC Light Heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort. In the middle of preparation, Silvas executive, Ed Soares, announced that Silva was still getting over an elbow injury, so couldnt push through with the fight. The UFC Heavyweight Championship bout was meant to be between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin. Originally set on UFC 106, this was moved to UFC 108. Then again, this fight would need to be moved for the second time due to Lesnars illnesses.
Whoever won between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasquez would go head to head against the champion between Lesnar and Carwin. But this bout was scrapped because Nogueira pulled out due to staph infection. The Nogueria and Velasquez fight is rescheduled for February 21, 2010 as part of UFC 110.
Another change in the line up is the match between Tyson Griffin and Jim Miller. Griffin backed out because of an injury. Sean Sherk was meant to replace him but he pulled out too. Duane Ludwig takes Sherks position and will compete against Jim Miller.
