Every Day Super Acts And Heroes

Superhero comics and movies really give us the wrong idea

. Superheroes can fly around the world in a single day, eat whatever they want and still have perfect figures, get the kids to school, save the world and still make it to work on time. Not to mention the perfect hair and makeup that lasts forever. The generation that lived on this stuff is now the grown-ups leading the world, and guess what: those dreams just did not happen, and here we are in the real world.

There are some things that can happen. Forever Makeup can still happen, thanks to tattooing, though changing style is difficult, and there are some health concerns. Cell phones are here now, and guess what, they are smaller and much cooler than what Superman and Wonder Woman used to carry around. And all those massive computers where superheroes would keep track of their sources and information and arch foes, we can now do that from a mobile device and do not need computers the size of a room. Not to mention the GPS tracking we can put on our kids phones, so if they are kidnapped, we have a place to start looking, rather than sitting by the phone crying and waiting for a ransom call.

OK, that last one was a little morbid, but in all honesty, superheroes are not as far as they seem. Sure, we still need a plane to fly, and a man lifting more than 600 lbs is a bit extreme, but they do happen. And there are little heroes all around us every single day. The man who brings the groceries up when you can't fit them all in one trip; that sister who calls at just the right moment when you are having a bad day and gives you a pick-me-up only she would know to give you; the stranger who pays for your latte when you discover you left your wallet at home.

There are people all over who do little things that mean so much more to us because they affect us. One cool thing about NOT having superheroes is that there are also no super villains threatening our home every week. Sure, living in Manhattan may not be the safest location, but at least the people with ill intentions know there is someone out there with a bigger gun to stop them if need be.

So, really, superheroes are here, all around. We just need to look for them
