For the European Economic Area, CE Marking is a certification that a particular product has met European Union consumer safety, alongside health and environmental requirements in its production and sales. This marking with the CE logo is required for the 27 countries of the EU and four countries in the EFTA (European Free Trade Union).

CE stands for Conformite Europeeane which simply means European Conformity. The mark itself has many fakes and imitations that are used on products that do not really pass EU standards. These fake logos are used to try and fool consumers who are unaware of the meaning and original design of the logo about the quality of their substandard products.

The ce mark logo is about 5mm in height. Oftentimes, the imitated logos are much bigger than 5mm, and appear as simple stickers on the products. It is also important to note the spacing of the letters. While fake logos are close together, looking like a regular CE on a white sticker, the real logo has the CE spaced well.

To be able to get assured authenticity and quality control, one must partake of the services of a CE Marking Service. In this service, certain documents and information are to be submitted in specific formats to authorized bodies about your product. Once submitted, the paperwork will be reviewed and compared to the standards set up by the EU. You will have to choose certain Directives and Assessment Modules to be able to classify the testing and experimentation to be done on your product.

When your product is circulated in an area under the EU and in some areas of the EFTA, it already requires the presence of the CE mark logo. Non compliance can result in imprisonment, fines, and a forced exit of your product from the market. Numerous sources for product quality standards are available, as well as governing bodies that are authorized to give certifications.
