Everything You Need To Know About Patio Heaters
True to the name, patio heaters are outdoor heating devices which help you to convert the outdoor space into utility space during winter and late fall
. Ideal for both homes and public places, this heating device is powered by electricity or gas. Patio heaters are popularly called mushrooms or umbrellas for their shape.
How It Works?
The heating element of a patio heater radiates heat from the central chamber through a metal mesh. Heat is generated by electric coils or gas flames depending on the model. The heat is transmitted downwards by a wide umbrella shaped cap, which will warm up the temperature up by 25 degrees maximum in the surrounding area. These electric heaters will have thermostats that allow the user to adjust the temperature.
Types of Patio Heaters
Patio heaters are available in various patterns and sizes and the conventional model is a tall and thin column that supports the heating device. It is well suited for heating u a large space because the height of this model allows the heat to spread to a larger area. Some of the other models include table top and hanging models. These days there are many stylish space heaters that match the dcor of your home. Available in a range of colors and sizes, some of these look like trendy table lamps and decorative lamps and are available from $300 to $1,000.
Uses
Patio heaters are used commonly in bars and restaurants to accommodate customers at the outdoor seating spaces. Some restaurants utilize these areas as smoking zones where smoking will not be allowed inside the building due to smoking bans. Many luxury hotel chains, like Hilton and Biltmore have included patio heaters along the outdoor entrances and sidewalks to enhance the utility of spaces and convenience of users.
Drawbacks
Though patio heaters help people to enjoy outdoor spaces during winter, these have invited the criticism of many environmental groups who claim that they add up to the greenhouse gases. According to a study report published by the Energy Trust, a patio heater can generate in six months as much green house gases as driving across the country 200,000 times, which has prompted the European Union to consider a ban on patio heaters.
