Evolution Of Internet In Academic Growth And Development.

The US government held a research to find for a suitable method of communication

in the 1960s which was robust, fault-tolerant and distributed by computer network. This later on came to be known as the Internet .The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks; of local to global scope; that are linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless and optical networking technologies. More than 2.1 billion people use the Internet as per a recent survey conducted in 2011 i.e. nearly a third of the earth's population

Just a couple of days ago, I remember an incident. My nephew was using his laptop in the living room and as I was passing by the hall, he just called me and asked how was the education system during my time. I know it sounds awkward, because I felt the education system was the same what was 15 years ago. I explained to him not in a detailed manner, and he just gave a weird look. I asked him why he was giving me that look and he said, Well, I feel sorry that you did not have the Internet during that time. I mean you could not use the Internet for homework or assignments."

I was not impressed with what he said though, but not to look stupid, I just asked him causally how the Internet had evolved. To answer this question, he simply turned his laptop to my side and logged on to the internet. He told me that he was using a high speed internet connection from Charter Internet. I never understood the term 'high speed' and it would make no difference to me even if I knew. I spent the next few hours surfing the net with my nephew, checking for websites that provides guidance for doing homework. During my entire life I had never spent so much hours surfing the web.

There were thousands of websites that provides guidance for students to do their homework. Many of these sites are free, while you have to pay for other sites. Each website has homework pertaining to different categories like science, math, history, geography, and more. Some websites have this option where students can log into the website for free and practice mathematics, even take a test. At the end of the test the website will show which answers were correct or wrong and even give the grades. There are web-sites dedicated to communicating about homework, for teachers to post assignments on-line for students, and to keep parents informed about their childs homework. Some websites have tutorials on most school subjects, especially math, which students can use if they don't understand their homework assignments. My friend Brandon said that his daughters school hosts the homework on the schools website. Each student is given a unique username and password, so the students just need to log into the school website, type the username and password and do the homework online.

Many libraries provide on-line resources which present subjects specifically for students who are looking for something to write about. And there are archives of ready-made homework assignments, including handouts, which teachers can use to provide homework to their students. Many other websites are used for research, especially search engines, such as Google, and encyclopedias.

To put in a nut shell, the Internet has indeed revolutionized the method of learning in an interactive and meaningful way. Parents dont need to worry about their children finishing their homework or assignments. The Internet has truly become a knowledge hub for children.
