Memex Information Retrieval System Memex was the first known device that acted as information storage and retrieval system in the year 1945. Vannaver Bush was the brain behind the concept of this information browsing system.

Veronica (Very Easy Rodent-Oriented Net-wide Index to Computerized Archives) was the second program that facilitated search in Gopher indexing system. Jughead (Jonzy's Universal Gopher Hierarchy Excavation And Display) was the third program that facilitated information searching at Gopher servers.

Enquire and WWW

Tim Berners-Lee developed the Enquire using hypertext concept and further worked to found World Wide Web, which facilitated sharing and updating the information across the servers. ALIWEB was the next program created in 1993 which worked on meta-data collection on WWW.

The serious advancement in search engine marketing experts technology was brought with the introduction of various programs like Excite, Galaxy and finally, Yahoo. Web Crawler, Lycos, Alta Vista, Ask Jeeves and many other search tools were introduced, before the arrival of Google in 1997.
