Exactly What Causes Morgellons And Exactly What Are The Symptoms?

In 2002 a mother, who had been a lab technician for 5 years

, reported lesions and fibers under her sons nose to her doctor. The doctor could find nothing wrong and sent the lady, Mary Leitao, home. Mrs Leitao named her sons mysterious condition Morgellons . So what is the illness and what can be done about it?

The illness is not recognized by the vast majority of the medical community in fact they believe that it is not a new disease at all but instead a manifestation of a long standing psychiatric illness called delusional parisitosis. The U. S governments center for disease control and prevention (CDC) have listened to the increasing amount of people who are saying that the illness is very real and can, in some cases, ruin lives. They are investigating the illness.

Some of the symptoms stated by the many sufferers of the illness include lesions and sores with an egg life appearance. These lesions are said to shed differing colors of fiber such as blue, red and black. In addition to this a sand like substance is shed that is black or white in color.

The main symptom appears to be the feeling of having parasites under the skin, off a feeling of crawling, burning and itching sensations. Other symptoms would appear to include cognitive ones such as confusion, memory loss and inability to comprehend simple issues. Muscular-skeletal, joint and tendon pain and exhaustion are also complained of by sufferers.

Delusional parasitosis is a psychiatric condition in which people genuinely believe that they have creatures and parasites crawling under their skin. People feel so much pain and irritation that they claw at their skin to remove the insects, this can cause deep welts, cuts and lesions. The fibers are believed to adhere to the open wound by natural transfer from domestic linen.

Whether peoples lesions are self inflicted or caused by an unknown and as yet not curable illness it is vital that help is available to those that are suffering. Hopefully the CDC's findings will go some way to solving the problem.
