Have the right equipment. If you only play games online once in a while, this might not be a big deal. You can take your mouse and change the buttons over. If, however, you plan on playing one of the MMORPG games like World of Warcraft, EverQuest or any of the other games that are out there, investing in one of the better left handed mouses is a good idea. This will make it easier for you to "get your game on" and compete with the other people that are playing the game with you. Be a team player. Many concepts (with MMORPG's) are the same as traditional team sports. You will be expected to accept instruction and direction in the heat of battle from teammates with more experience.

You should also be ready to step up and give directions when the situation calls for it. You will most likely have to play in ways that you are not used to, but it's fun for everyone; and also you will at times need to make some kind of sacrifice for the team effort. If you're not prepared to bend a little and play for the good of the team, then your experience may be short lived in that community. Try to keep the team's best interest and enjoyment as your priority.

Try to make regular progress. Don't let your characters get stuck, but keep them leveling up. Be ambitious about obtaining treasure, rewards or gold that you get for various achievements. It is good to have a goal to work toward when you play games online. This keeps your mind occupied and makes the game more challenging and fun. It can also help you feel like you are being productive, even while you spend hours sitting in front of your monitor. Without any goals, what's the point in playing? Tracking down treasures and going on quests with end goals in mind is a lot better. Online gaming is meant to be a fun way to pass the time. Now it exists a separate and huge online community, and they're serious and welcoming to new members. Yet people still just want to have fun with it and be sociable. If you're a lefty but don't have a left-handed mouse, then seriously think about how much it will affect the quality of fun and level of play you'll have. The most important thing as always is to have a great time with your friends.
