When youve got that deadline to meet and your boss is on the sidelines just waiting to jump down your throat if things go wrong its hard to imagine work ever being exciting. However people all over the world wake up eager to go to work because theyre doing a job they live for, not a job that simply pays the bills. Although you might be screaming at the screen that this is describing you shouldnt jump into anything before thinking it through. For example when you think of Kate Moss gracing the cat walk do you think she got there without doing a lot of hard work? Sure she might have been spotted but it didnt instantly give her the skills and expertise to know how the model industry worked. Or maybe you watch Eminem and wish you could be as famous and successful as he is. Like many he started from the bottom composing raps and making contacts before he gained the success he has today. Many successful people face highly pressured situations that often drive them into the path of drink and drugs that can ultimately be their downfall. Being successful and in an exciting job has many perks but these are weighed up against so many cons, you need to be able to handle this by having the right personality to start with.
Firstly make a list of what you want to be and a realistic target of when you want to be there, i.e. dont say a year because thats highly unlikely. Understand that work will not fall into your lap and you will have to work out the monetary value of your chosen career can you afford to do it. You can easily maintain a part time job like waitressing or bar tending whilst pursuing success but they often mean hard work and long hours that youll need to put into your dream job as well.
To start you off described below are very exciting careers that many people want to do. They might be for you, they might not but it gives you some starting guidance on where to go.
Working in music
The music industry is the most exciting, passionate rock and roll industries. It is full of wannabe hopefuls and those who have been a success through a lot of hard work, talent and motivation. There are many options to working in this industry but ultimately many people just want to perform through their enjoyment of entertaining others. You can gain experience and a fan base through touring local pubs and clubs and perhaps set up a Myspace page for your music that many successful acts have done in the past ala Lily Allen. The idea is to get as popular as possible with the hope of record dealers seeing what youve got to offer and being interested in signing you up.
Talent shows are all the rage and will give both the very bad and very good a chance to grab the limelight. You will be up against great competition but youll gain amazing exposure and grow a fan base that will be invaluable even if you dont win the show. However if youd rather work as a musician you can advertise for other band members, start playing together and expose yourself in a similar way to a singer. You should see yourself as a business and promote yourself accordingly, if you have the talent you will eventually get noticed. Keep strong, prepare for knock backs and be determined that you will be playing at V Festival one day. Working behind the scenes of music can be very hard work but amazingly rewarding when you see your act succeed. Jobs include record managers, spotters, music producer etc.

With the Oscar parties, the red carpet premieres and the worldwide famous and success who wouldnt want to get into the exciting move industry. It is however not a easy ride, it involves sweat, tears, severe competition and a struggle to make it to the top. Firstly you should enjoy acting and have a talent to move audiences, your next stop would be to attend as many auditions as possible and gain experience in local performances. You wont get the first part you audition for and you probably wont get the next, unless youre very lucky so you have to be headstrong and know you can do it. You can start through the bottom and get as many speaking parts as possible to gain credits or you can get an education in drama.
Drama schools are very select in their students and often only the best achieve a place. So to get in you must have some star quality that is evident in your audition. The schools provide a great education that will teach you all the skills of acting and how to perfect your act. Theyll also provide chances to audition for upcoming TV shows which will get you the experience you crave. Successful students from the Sylvia Young agency went on to star in shows like Eastenders and The Bill.
