Exercise tip - Working out when you have no time
Ok, so in my last blog I talked about ways to make time for exercise when you have feel like you have no time. You looked at the suggestions and still could not find ways to fit a work out in, well folks this one is for you. I put together a few ideas of some simple exercises you can do in the few minutes you have here and there. These are simple exercises anyone can do, at any physical level and with a little tweaking these exercises can be made very challenging.
Walking - a very good way to get a little exercise is walking. Look for ways to walk instead of always jumping in the car. On your next break instead of sitting down and drinking that cup of coffee take a lap or two around the office. A lunch time walk with some of your co-workers is another great way to sneak a little exercise in.
The stairs offer another way to sneak in a little exercise. Of course take the stairs instead of the elevator, but if you are able take two steps at a time. For those who work in a large office building why not have a lunch time top to bottom stair climb, it is an awesome workout.
Calf raise - I do these all the time when I'm standing. Stand on your toes and slowly raise and lower your heels. It is a good way to not only stretch your calf muscles but also helps to keep them tone as well.
The core is the most important group of muscles in the body, a weak core can be the cause of many aches and pain in the body not the least of which are back pain. The core is responsible for among other things spinal support. A strong spine dramatically improves posture, it has been proven that having good posture is a key facture in a having a positive outlook on yourself and the world. A simple way to improve your core and something you can do at your desk while you're driving or anywhere is the seated crunch. With your back straight contract your muscles like you would while doing a crunch, hold the contraction as long as you can up to 15 seconds release and repeat. It is important to make sure the muscles are not convex, i.e. sunken in ,but flat and tight, also you should not be hold be holding your breath.
Another great core/abs work out is the tried and true sit-up. This is something that can be done anywhere you can even do them at work (if you don't mind the looks from your co-workers). Sit-ups are a great way to get the abdominals in shape and keep them there. I do sit-ups almost every day, (get ready I'm going to talk about goals again) I do 100 before my shower. Now 100 may seem like a lot but if you start with say 10-15 and add 1 or 2 every time you do it you'll be up to 100 in no time. Another great thing about sit ups is that you don't have to bang out 100 at a time to get the results a few at a time works just as well, done throughout the day works just fine.
Pushups I cannot say enough about this exercise, if you are doing nothing else you should be doing pushups. They are a great way to work out almost every muscle group in your body. As I have stated before from a time versus results stand point the push up is the best exercise you can do. As with the sit-ups I do 100 push-ups before my shower, these as well can be broken down into small sets and done throughout the day.
There are many other exercise like the dip, the lunge, the plank that can be done anywhere as well, but these where just a few to get you started and work a little exercise in your busy day. Look for more exercise tips in blogs to come.
