Eravikulam National Park: Famous for its endangered Nilgiri Tahr, this National Park is a must-visit for wildlife enthusiasts. It is known to house (around 750) the largest population of Nilgiri Tahr in the world. It is located along the Western Ghats in the Idukki district. Other wildlife species found here are Gaur, Indian Muntjac and Sambar Deer. Golden Jackal, Jungle Cat, Wild dog, Dhole, leopard, tiger, Nilgiri langur, Stripe-necked Mongoose, Indian Porcupine, Nilgiri Marten. Atlas Moth, the largest moth in the world is also found here. Tourists can enjoy trekking to the Anamudi Peak inside the park. It is the highest peak in South India. The most favorable time to visit the park is from September to February.
Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary: If birds push your adrenaline level into high gear, then this is the destination you must visit. It is an abode of colorful and beautiful birds, including the migratory ones. Birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles are the inhabitants of the sanctuary. Around 500 species of birds are there in the park. Covering an area of 14 acres, the sanctuary is located on the banks of Vembanad Lake. The best time to visit is from November to February.
Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary: For nature freaks, this sanctuary is a paradise. It is known for its elephants and is also a home to tiger, deer, leopard, langur etc. The most favorable period to visit this sanctuary is from December to April.
Periyar Tiger Reserve: This is a beautiful Tiger Reserve of South India which boasts of good population of panthers, tigers and elephants. Other wildlife species are also found here. The park is ideally located in the Western Ghats of Kerala. The favorable time to visit the park is from September to March.
