Assess Service Offerings: Are there new ones you can/should add; old ones you should drop?

Some things to consider as you go about this:

Have clients been asking for certain services that you don't yet provide; are you offering certain services that clients never or seldom order; have you gotten additional training/knowledge that would allow you to offer certain services; can you outsource certain services that you don't now offer that you would like to; etc.

Assess Your SEO Writing Rates: Although I'm a big fan of NOT raising rates every year as a writer (especially in this economy), if you've had problems landing jobs, one of the first things you should look at is rates.

Are yours too high/low? As I talked about in this post, charging too little can be costing you just as many jobs as charging too much.

Another thing to consider when it comes to rates is how much did you start off at. Many SEO writers start out charging too little, so it would behoove them to raise rates - and the beginning of the year is the ideal time to do it as most clients are conditioned to expect new service terms/conditions at this time of year.

Assess Clients: Are you happy with the types of clients you're bringing in, or do you wish they were different (eg, more corporate/less "mom/pop").

If you have clients who you feel nickel and dime you to death, ask so many questions you feel you should charge a consulting fee, ask for numerous changes with no additional pay, and/or those just get on nerves you didn't even know you had, then maybe it's time to make some changes.

The holiday season is a perfect time to assess your clients so you can decide if they fit you. No one can pay me enough to work with clients I don't like or who distress me unduly. This is the freedom of being a freelance writer; of working for yourself. You choose the client every bit as much as they choose you.
