Want your new ceramic tile work to be unique? Consider using a more unusual shade of grout.
During the planning of home improvementorremodelingprojects involving tiles most homeowners or remodeling contractors will give considerable attention to tile color and design. Often though the color of the grout that will actually be used to hold the whole new installation together is pretty much just an afterthought.
In days gone by, more often than not grouts were used that were a similar color to the tile being used. The modern trend is seeing grout used in new ways, to provide contrast to the color of the tiles and add a little "edginess" to the overall dcor of the remodeled room.
Dark grout with light tiles is a particularly popular look at the moment. This combination really allows the tiles themselves to "pop". Alternatively the reverse look can be implemented with darker tiles and light grout to the same rather impressive effect. Darker grouts come with the added bonus that they do not get dirty anywhere nearly as quickly as lighter versions!
Using grout to pick out a highlight from a multicolored or patterned ceramic tile can make a huge difference. For instance a predominantly white tiledbathroomwith bright green tile highlights will look different very with all green grout as opposed to the more obvious choice of a plain white grout.
You and your remodeling contractor do not have to waste grout and ceramic tiles to figure out a color combination for the two that will work. Instead place your chosen ceramic tiles on different colored pieces of construction paper to help you work it out. The experiment will not give you much of a glimpse of the real finished product but will help you determine if beige grout really does go well with those sunflower yellow ceramic tiles.
