Constructed by Maharana Sajjan Singh in the golden era of the 1850s, this captivating garden enclave enjoys a scenic location on the shores of Lake Pichola, found down Lake Palace Road to the southeast of the famed City Palace Complex. Renowned for its neatly arranged rose beds and the sheer variety of rose species found within the premises, the garden is fondly referred to as the Rose Garden and the Sajjan Niwas Garden as well.

Innumerable rows upon rows of sweet scented roses line the garden paths at every turn. Frequented by residents who wish to escape the bustle of the city and visitors with a love of natural surroundings, the garden is a veritable treasure trove of lush landscapes and scenic views. Once ranked among the largest gardens in all of India, the Gulab Bagh Garden has never witnessed a decline in the multitude of visitors that walk through its gates to enjoy shady patches interspersed with aromatic rose beds. Towering fruit trees and vibrant orchids decorate this green parkland that also houses a small zoo with leopards, birds, tigers and chinkaras. A toy train also runs along the garden and is the favourite attraction among the parks young visitors.

In addition to the park natural highlights, other points of interest include the Saraswati Bhawan Library, which is also located within the garden premises. With an illustrious collection of books in the fields of archaeology, history and indology, the library also stocks several significant manuscripts that date back to the beginning of medieval times. The Victoria Hall Museum, which is also found within Gulab Bagh Garden, is also worth a visit for its extensive collection of historical artefacts. Providing visitors with valuable insights into the royal and cultural heritage of Rajasthan, the museum showcases household items once used in royal palaces, precious antiques as well as other relics and curios.

When it comes to a luxury Udaipur heritage hotel, there are few finer options than The Leela Palace Kempinski Udaipur. With the idyllic Aravali Mountains serving as the backdrop, this stylish rest on the shores of Pichola Lake is also one of the most pleasantly situated Udaipur hotels in Rajasthan.
