When people think of California, they usually think of Los Angeles and movie stars

San Francisco is probably the most known city in northern California, and offers a wide range of activities for visitors to enjoy. Car hire at Ghirardelli chocolate and Pier 39, there is no limit to the amount of fun to be had in this cosmopolitan city. With an abundance of shops, sea lions on the beach, restaurants enough to satisfy even the most varied of the papillae, and history that includes earthquakes and the infamous Alcatraz prison.

If you are looking for a quieter trip to the area, Yosemite National Park offers something for lovers of nature within all of us. If you want to enjoy the scenery from a window in the hotel room or camping in a tent to enjoy nature up front and personal, you'll find what you want in Yosemite. Even further north is the amazing Redwood National Park, with its gigantic trees and a serene environment. Here you'll get not only a great appreciation for the beauty and diversity of this world, but also find a new perspective on life!

It's not really possible to mention the Northern California highlights without mentioning the Napa Valley area. For lovers of world cuisine, the Napa Valley is heaven on earth. There are wine tasting parties and open days all year long just make sure to call ahead or check online to see what the latest information. The Napa Valley also has seen some incredible landscapes.

For lovers of history, Northern California is a gold mine of Spanish missions, exhibitions Gold Rush and railroad museums. If you are interested in how California became what it is today, I love exploring all the museums and exhibitions devoted to this period of time.
