One of these sites features the fortified churches of Transylvania, where whole villages had to gather when the surrounding lands were under siege. Another World Heritage Site is the Monastery of Horezu, where colorful frescoes, murals, and statues exhibit some of the most stunning artwork in Romania. The Painted Monasteries of Bucovina are another spectacular sight, covered from top to bottom with vibrant frescoes depicting Bible stories as well as the lives of famous Saints. Stunning colors and beautiful technique have made this site so relevant, and when seen in context, with the flowers and the mountains, it's enough to take your breath away.
