Exploring The Marvellous Museums Of Munich

Munich is the largest city and capital of the German state of Bavaria

. It is a friendly city (their motto is Munich likes you) that is located in the south of the country and can sometimes feel far removed from bustling cities like Berlin. Wherever you plan to stay in the city, Munich hotels will make it easy to relax in style and comfort and be close to the main sights that you want to see. While taking in the attractions of the city, be sure to take time to explore some of the many museums available, such as the Schackgalerie, the Deutsches Museum and the BMW Museum.

The Schackgalerie

In the 1800s, Count Adolf Friedrich von Schack was an art collector, writer and poet who sought to collect artworks from mostly unknown and rising artists to give them an opportunity. Since the collection he put together was mostly to his personal taste, the art is realistic and depicts the lives and places of people of his time. The collection was originally housed in his mansion in Brienner Strasse, and when he died, he left it to the emperor. The present gallery on Prinzregentenstrasse is conveniently near a variety of luxury Munich hotels, and makes the Schackgalerie somewhere you shouldnt miss out on seeing. While inside, keep your eyes peeled for the works of Moritz von Schwind, Carl Rottmann, and Franz con Lenbach, just to name a few.

The Deutsches Museum

As you leave your Munich hotels and stroll along the water, you cannot help but notice the worlds largest museum of technology and science. The Deutsches Museums main bulk is on an island in the Isar River and was opened in 1925. At the end of the Second World War, some of the buildings were badly damaged and the museum was closed for a period of rebuilding. The museum re-opened in the late forties, but it wasnt until the mid sixties that the collection matched the pre-war size. Inside the vast museum, which has two other branches in and around Munich, and one more in Bonn, the collection covers everything from agriculture, astronomy, bridge-building, chemistry, machine components, mathematical gallery, music, physics, paper, and weights and measures, just to name a few. If the sciences interest you, plan more than just a day in the museum, give yourself at least two to see the majority of the exhibits.

The BMW Museum

If cars are the toys you like the most, then, while staying in the plush Munich hotels, take time to go and see the BMW Museum. Located near Olympicpark, the museum was opened in 1972 (just in time for the 1973 Olympic games). Inside, the museum takes you through the history of the company and goes beyond just cars and motorcycles to turbines and engines. Inside, there are seven exhibition houses with over 120 of the most attractive and rare of BMWs fleet of vehicles. There is also a host of temporary exhibitions that come through the BMW museum such as the current one: Blitz Motorcycles, where every machine is a unique specimen created by Hugo Jzgabel and Fred Jourden.
