Exploring The Natural Wonders Of St Lucia

Located in the western Caribbean Sea is the island of St Lucia

. It is a sovereign island country that sits on the confluence of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean, with a history that dates back to well before the Europeans landed on its shores in 1492. When you are staying at a luxury resort like the Cap Maison, St Lucia opens up around you and you can explore the history, culture, cuisines and the natural landscapes that draw so many people to this stunning island.

The island itself is broken up into eleven regions, with the Gros Islet at the top of the island home to the high-end and famous Cap Maison. St Lucia provides visitors with a stunning array of natural areas to explore and luxuriate infrom the stunning beaches to the unique sulphur springs.

Beautiful beaches

Reduit Beach, just a short distance away from the Cap Maison St Lucia, is often considered to be the best beach the island has to offer. With more than a mile of soft, golden sands and clear blue waters, you can relax along the waters edge and gaze out at the double humps of Pigeon Island just across the water. The south end of this beach also has the benefit of being the place to go for a party. But if you prefer more secluded shores, head across the water to the southern side of Pigeon island. Here, before you enter the national park, there are a couple of secluded beaches that can provide you with relaxation and solitude. If you want to experience a truly unique beach, head over to Anse Cochon on the islands west coast. The unusual dark sand beach is backed by thick forests and the blue waters are some of the best on the island for snorkelling.

The sulphur springs

Often called the worlds only drive-in volcano the sulphur springs on the southwestern side of the island are well worth venturing out from the luxurious surrounds of the Cap Maison St Lucia to see. The water at the centre of the springs boils at a tempestuous 170 degrees Celsius, and though you used to be able to drive right up to the edge of the springs and walk up to the tar pits, since a guide fell through the crust and was badly burned, the tourist line is now set well back for safety. But if you want to dive right in, head downstream from the springs where the water is a cooler 45 degrees Celsius. It is open for visitors to bathe and have mud baths in the rich gloop, which is said to promote health and have a host of healing properties.
