Exploring Under The Sea At The Shanghai Ocean Aquarium
The newly built Shanghai Ocean Aquarium is the latest addition to the long list of tourist attractions in the city
. The aquarium was built and designed with the intention of providing its visitors with an unforgettable experience of their visit and to surpass all other aquariums in the region. The massive 22,400 square meters of floor space and the longest underwater tunnel in Asia ensures that this objective was met. The observation windows and the tunnels have been constructed in manner that allows visitors to observe the fish from many different angles, rather than having a monotonic view of the action.
The Aquarium has been divided into eight different sections to reflect the different regions of the world. A total of 28 exhibits can be seen here within which are displayed an excess of 300 different species. Among the inmates of the aquarium, perhaps most famous is the 17 inch Oranda Goldfish known as Bruce. According to the authorities the fish is named after popular Chinese martial arts expert Bruce Lee.
Another special feature of the Shanghai Ocean Aquarium is its China section. Endangered species from the marine waters of China can be seen on display here, along with several fresh water species notably those from the Yangtze River housed in a separate enclosure.
The Shanghai Ocean Aquarium has been an active proponent of protecting marine life since its inception and has always been considered a centre of education and research by the Chinese government. Located with in the Lujiazui financial district, the aquarium is within easy reach of Shanghai accommodation such as the Somerset Xu Hui, offering the traveler a Shanghai serviced apartment filled with a host of comforts and greater privacy. These make a great base for long stay business travelers in the city, being located within close proximity of the financial district, as well as some of the citys major tourist attractions.
