, it is smart to have an idea of what the job entails. Generally, you can expect a wide variety of tasks while working alongside a professional dentist. Here is a list of some of the things you may be required to do while working a professional job at a dentist's office.

One of the most basic tasks you will be required to perform is instrument assistance. While the main dentist is busy at work on someone's teeth, you can assist him or her by passing them the instruments. It is absolutely necessary that you know the names of all of the instruments and what they look like so you are able to help in a timely manner.

Before the dentist even arrives to do his or her job, you have to prepare the station. This means that you will need to greet the patient and lead them to their chair. Make sure they are comfortable and place a bib on their chest. Once you have done this, you should lay out all of the instruments that may be used during the appointment.

Throughout the appointment, you will be in charge of suction. Next to the patient's chair there will be a little tube that, when turned on, provides suctions. Use this tool to keep the patient's mouth dry so the dentist can work quickly and efficiently.

A more complicated task that you will have to perform is X-rays. Patients often need X-rays to check for cavities or root canals. Once you have gotten the patient seated and placed all the necessary tools in their mouth, you can take the photos requested by the main dentist. Then you must take the X-ray photos to be viewed by him or her.

One of the most important aspects of your job is keeping patients' charts up to date. You must make important notes of future appointments and things that you feel are necessary to write down. Maintaining an accurate chart for each patient makes scheduling much easier.

After the appointment is over, you will have to sterilize all on the instruments when you work in dental assistant jobs. In training, you will learn exactly how to sterilize instruments to make sure they are clean of all germs. This is a very integral part of your job because it stops the spread of illnesses. After you have sterilized the tools, you must store them in the appropriate area.
