One important function in household management is the prevention and removal of stains in garments, fabrics, household furniture and fixtures. If you are into it, it would help you to know some tried and tested ways in dealing with "stains." When it comes to fabrics, you need to take into consideration the type of fabric. Same fabrics require the same solutions. Therefore, different solutions are required for different fabrics. With washable fabrics, most stains are removable. Some products used for stain removal are:

* Chlorine bleach Bleach must be diluted with water. It is common to mix one part bleach with four parts water.

* Detergent paste - Mix dishwashing detergent granules with water to make a paste.


* Hydrogen peroxide - Use the solution straight out of the bottle, no problem.

* Vinegar - One part white vinegar is mixed with four parts of water.

Take a look at the kind of stain problem you have:

* Anti-perspirant - apply liquid detergent on the spot and wash with hot water. If it is a heavy stain, place the garment face down on a paper and apply dry cleaning solvent with a sponge. Scrub with liquid detergent, then rinse and wash in very hot water.

* Beverages and fruit juices - Stretch the material over a large bowl and pour boiling water through the stain. If the stain is not removed, use bleach or hydrogen peroxide.

* Blood - Pour cold water first on the spot, and then apply hydrogen peroxide or chlorine bleach if safe for the fabric. Enzymes can be used for removing all protein type stains such as bloodstains or egg stains. Unflavored meat tenderizer can also be tried on the bloodied spot

.* Candle wax - Use a dull knife to scrape off as much wax. Place the stain between white paper towels and press over it with a warm iron. Replace towel as they show wax. Go over the back of any remaining stain with pre-wash spray, liquid detergent or dry-cleaning solvent.

* Carbon paper - Work detergent into the stain, then rinse with cold water. If there are still stains, use a few drops of ammonia and then rinse.

* Chewing gum - Hold an ice cube over the gum to harden it and then scrape it off with a dull knife. Apply dry cleaning solvent and rinse well.

With knowledge of these tried and tested ways to remove stains from your garments, fabrics and fixtures, it will not put you into a panic mode when you encounter some "stains" attack because you know how to deal with the problem effortlessly!
