Facial Hyperhidrosis Could Be More Than Just Nerves

Truthfully, obesity can, and sometimes is a factor because the extra fat in the body

makes it harder to regulate and control heat and thus makes sweating more apparent. But it is rarely the main cause for persons who experience excessive sweating.

Hyperhidrosis is one factor and this translates as excessive sweating. It has two main forms, secondary and primary. Primary hyperhidrosis occurs when the sympathetic nervous system overreacts thus causing excessive sweating. This system controls the sweat glands in the body which regularly produce sweat, when something goes wrong with this system it releases more than it needs. Secondary hyperhidrosis occurs when there is an underlying medical issue that causes the system to produce more rapidly. These underlying reasons can range from menopause to bran lesions or hyperthyroidism. Hyperhidrosis explains this common problem.

Facial hyperhidrosis is mainly triggered by the changing temperatures experience indoors and out, even just slightly, and your sweat glands overreact. Other common triggers are stimulants such as caffeine or spicy foods. One of the most common triggers for facial hyperhidrosis is social anxiety and stress.

Thankfully this condition can be reduced and controlled, but not cured as this condition is a chronic one and will occur an entire lifetime. If it could be cured it still would not be a very smart option as the body needs sweat to control its core temperature. A simple change in attitude and lifestyle is the key. Cutting down or stop smoking altogether helps to control hyperhidrosis. Controlling and limiting the intake of caffeine may also reduce excessive sweating. Exercising and loosing surplus weight will keep you fit and not have the body react in difficulty, in cooling extra fatty tissue. Another surefire way to reduce sweating is to drink plenty of water. This will help to regulate the body's temperature more accurately, lowering its need to sweat.

This lifestyle change is worth it, a simple visit to a physician or dermatologist will help to diagnose your issue properly. Your physician will administer a few blood tests to finalize whether you have the primary or secondary variety of hyperhidrosis. After that some simple iodine starch tests are done to evaluate the intensity of the sweating you are experiencing. All this is to discover which type of treatment or remedy will work the best. Oral medications are also available and topical antiperspirants are receivable over the counter. These oral medications consist of anti-depressants, and should be used only if your sweating is triggered by stress or anxiety. But be aware of their side-effects like drowsiness or dryness in the mouth. Non-evasive Botox injections and Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy or ETS scans are some of the more pricey and artificial remedies. Botox injections only last for eight to ten months, after they wear off they will have to be re-administered. An ETS is more effective, especially if your sweating occurs in the face or the armpits, palms or the soles of the feet. Surgery, however does always pose a risk, such as infections and unwanted bleeding and should be a last resort.

Facial hyperhidrosis is treatable and in most cases can be controlled so one can live a normal life.
