A compact car from Mercedes? Really? Its hard to picture and it may be unexpected

. It also was probably inevitable. Mercedes is equated with glamour and luxury. Compact cars, not so much.

What is Mercedes thinking throwing their hat in the compact market? Well, they are probably thinking they can tap into a new market and offer a more eco-friendly option in the process. Fairfax Mercedes dealers look forward to being able to expand the scope of their inventory.

So in trying to meet more customer needs as well as keep up with BMW and Audi, the sub-A-Class idea was born and has apparently made it to the drawing board. Maybe thats why the details of the car are still very sketchy. The people who spy out such things claim that the little version of the Mercedes will be about the same size as the original A-Class model. Thats more than 14 inches shorter than the A-Class measures now.

I predict customers of Fairfax Mercedes will be curious enough about this compact to at least stop by and see it. It will certainly be interesting to see what facts are released by Mercedes in the next few months about this mystery compact. The level of luxury, list of amenities and the price point will be eagerly awaited as well.

The industry spies will probably be feeding us more information soon. Customers of any Fairfax used Mercedes dealer will just have to be patient, but the prospect of a compact Mercedes is actually a huge deal and we should be expressing interest. The more chatter there is about the compact the more notice Mercedes will take.

Production is market-driven, so Mercedes will be listening to what its customers want and watching how they react to the news of a possible compact. They might even turn to us to decide on details like interior features and level of technology.
