The Mercedes R-Class has not received a lot of attention

. That's why Mercedes has given it a facelift. A redesigned front end will premier on the R-Class when it reaches showrooms this August. This new look helps the R-Class look more like the rest of the Mercedes-Benz family. Your Mercedes dealer in Reston anticipates that the new model will bring in new customers.

A few other minor details have been changed, but all-in-all this is pretty much the 2010 model with a new face. Still the R-Class comfortable carries seven people and that's what most buyers would focus on in a vehicle like this. The styling becomes secondary. Some choices have been added for the interior package, such as dash color (it used to be only black) and trims can be made from your choice of a selection of woods.

With any Mercedes dealer, Leesburg customers will get to choose between two engines. The 3.5-liter V-6 gas engine has 286 horsepower, but gets only 14 mpg city and 19 mpg highway. The V6 diesel pulls 210 horsepower, but reaches 18-24 mph. Both engine choices will be available with a 7-speed automatic transmission.

Testers have said the driving experience is more similar to American-made rides than to the typical German ride. Could this be a purposeful ploy to entice those who feel they are too red, white and blue to drive a foreign-made vehicle? The safety features on the R-Class are about what you would expect from Mercedes numerous and solid. The controls are similar to the previous model and easy for anyone to read. The interior borders on luxurious, again, as you would expect from Mercedes and the seats are quite comfortable. A must-have family feature has been tucked into the rear seat - a full entertainment system (everything you need but the popcorn) with two eight-inch screens, wireless headsets and a DVD player. Sounds like a party to me!

To be honest, anything that can and will keep my kids from fighting and asking me for the 47th time "how much longer" is a necessity. Sure, family time in the car is a great thing, but when you're driving 3,000 like we did this summer you have to have a Plan B!

When the 2011 Mercedes R-Class crossover arrives in August, be sure to visit your Mercedes dealer, Leesburg residents, and check it out. Although it's not flashy or futuristic and doesn't have anything other than the Mercedes logo to distinguish it from the other vehicles in the parking lot, the luxury is there are soon as you open the door and can't be ignored.
