As the seasons change from summer to fall we start noticing the temperatures getting
cooler and the leaves start changing color creating a beautiful scene outside. This can be an incredibly fun time for kids to play outside between the autumn colored dry crunchy leaves and the opportunity to wear a new jacket. There are a number of fun outdoor activities for kids that you can enjoy with them as well.
Leaf Pile
One of the most popular fall kids activities that has been around for many generations and is still fun for kids of all ages including us big "kids" is playing in leaf piles. Have the kids come outside to help you rake the fallen leaves into piles in the yard. You can either do several smaller piles or one big pile. Let them jump in or fall back onto the pile. Kids can also hide in the piles, starting a game of hide and seek. Playing with piles of crunchy leaves can be a lot of fun, get creative with it. You can create leaf rain, leaf beds or a leaf fort.
Leaf Collecting
Another fun outdoor activity for kids during the fall is leaf collecting. Find a good container to keep the leaves in good condition and take a walk around the neighborhood to find as many different types and colors of leaves as you can. If you know your trees you can even start teaching about the different types of trees; when you get home you can ask which leaf came from which type of tree. When you bring the collected leaves home you can use them to create artwork or press them in a book so they can dry flat and be used for art or other fun activities.
Plant A Tree
Many people think about planting trees in the spring season, but trees can be planted in the fall in many areas as well. Then when spring comes the tree will be at least somewhat established for the growth seasons. Your kids can help you with this. They may want to help you dig the hole as most kids like to play in the dirt. Then they can help you fill the hole and surround the base with leaves and bark that can be used to nourish the tree. They can help you water it and watch it grow in the warmer seasons.
