Famous Faces From Destin, Florida

Home to a mere 11,000 residents, Destin Florida is one of the smaller cities lining the Emerald Coast

. Known for it's picturesque white sand beaches and ample fishing, this, World's Luckiest Fishing Village, is the ideal destination for Floridians to get away from the glitz and glam of Miami and Orlando. The serene ambiance may be the reason why such a number of residents go on to achieve great things - after all, Destin is home to several famous faces.

Remember the band Kansas? Even 35 years later, Their 1977 hit "Carry On Wayward Son" still has regular radio play. "Dust in the Wind" is one of those songs that is an icon of the latter 20th century rock, and also by Kansas. Up until the band broke up in 1983, Dave Hope was the bass guitarist for Kansas - Destin, Florida is now the place he calls home. Hope still plays bass, for his own praise band, The IRS, and is an Anglican minister at one of the local Anglican churches in Destin.

Still on the topic of music, a couple members of the American rock band All-American Rejects reside in Destin, Florida. Their first hit single "Swing, Swing" rose to the top of the charts in 2003. Included on Billboard magazine's "Top 200 artists of the decade" is the group All-American Rejects, a band that has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide. But who lives in Destin? Destin is now the main residence of Nick Wheeler, the lead guitar and backing vocal singer. Very close to Santa Rosa Beach, lives Tyson Ritter, the band's lead vocal, bass guitarist and piano player.

It seems Destin, Florida is a great place for musicians to flourish. Other celebrities that have vacation homes in Destin, include musicians Cheryl Crow, and Britney Spears. As does Jeff Cook, singer and founding member of the iconic band Alabama. Perhaps it is the sea air, the emerald green waters, or the quiet solitude of Destin that brings the music back to these accomplished musicians. Whatever it is, it works!
